Julian Assange News:
  • Ecuador stated that Britain has withdrawn the threat to storm the Embassy in London and arrest Julian Assange. President Correa commented, "We consider this unfortunate incident over, after a grave diplomatic error by the British in which they said they would enter our embassy". The UK has stated they wish to resume dialogue with Ecuador.
  • Journalism ethics professor Edward Wasserman wrote an article which asks the questions about Julian Assange's case that the media seems to be ignoring: Why won't Sweden question Mr Assange in the UK? What is the U.S.'s involvement? Is there an indictment against Mr Assange? Isn't it time for a dispassionate assessment of WikiLeaks' impact?
  • An Op-Ed in The Hindu explains how the way forward in Julian Assange's case would be for assurances to be granted against his U.S. extradition so that he may travel to Sweden and be questioned. 
  • The Guardian reports that Nick Potter, son of a former High Court judge, was stopped by the police because they 'had reason to believe' he was Julian Assange.
  • The INTERPOL website has been taken offline, with Anonymous claiming responsibility as part of "Operation Free Assange". Anonymous also brought down Former Secretary Peter Hein's website, although Mr Hein questioned this action because he has both supported Mr Assange and opposed his extradition. 
  • Julian Assange's lawyer Baltasar Garzon was on ABC AM Radio discussing his client's case and how it may be years until it is resolved. He also said they will support Ecuador if the case is taken to the International Court of Justice.
  • A photograph, as well as testimony from Rick Falkvinge and Anna Troberg, may help Julian Assange clear his name of the sexual misconduct allegations against him.
  • Actor Anthony LaPaglia gave up a part in Quentin Tarantino's upcoming film "Django Unchained", instead committing himself to "Underground", a TV movie about Julian Assange's earlier years. 
  • A video from the 12 August 2012 rally for Julian Assange on Magnetic Island, where Mr Assange spent part of his childhood, is now available.
